Belly fat is a drag!

Its very important to keep belly fat monitored because it can become detrimental to your health. It has been associated with an increase of heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke and diabetes. And let’s be honest, we don’t like how it looks!

Belly fat has always been my weakest point, it has been the hardest to eliminate and it is still my constant struggle. From all the posts and books I have read about the subject I can presume that it is an ongoing battle for a lot of people.

Here are a few tips that might help to get rid of that really stubborn fat (By the way, im still working on mine!).

  • I’m sure you have heard this one: Abs are made in the kitchen. If you do 2000 crunches and one hour of hard core cardio, but are not organized with your meals, not much is going to happen. Eat good food, balance your meals and eat according to your exercise level.
  • If you are active (go to the gym, excersice outdoors, etc), try to incorporate high intensive interval workouts (HIIT). Try running in intervals, doing some burpees or high knees. The possibilities are endless. Working in high intervals helps you burn much more fat not only during the time you exercise but for hours afterwards.
  • Control your stress levels. When you get stressed your body stores fat around the waist because adrenaline and cortisol levels rise, releasing fat and sugar into the bloodstream. Furthermore, after a stressful situation the body asks to be “refuelled”, that is why you might get hungry after a nerve-wracking event. This is actually a defence mechanism our ancestors used to preserve themselves during times of danger. Nowadays we don’t move as much, so all that fat and glucose stored in the body just sits there and builds up. You can read more about this subject on Marilyn Gelville’s website.
  • There is no magic trick, you have to get moving. If you are not very active, try incorporating 30-minute walks daily. Gradually you will feel the change and hopefully will start a routine that becomes an important part of your day.

So get going and start reducing that fat that sits there and is so unpleasant. There are many things you can do. The goal in the end is to be healthy and feel good about yourself.
